Abstract

This is a story of Dharmambudhi lake, one of the first lakes built after Bangalore city was founded in the mid-sixteenth century. Today the city's central bus terminus, its transformation is so complete that it is difficult to find residents who remember that it was once a lake. Using a combination of archival documents and oral histories, we document the relationship that this lake has built with successive generations of city residents.
