Abstract

The lake and town of Ohrid contains numerous rare and unique cultural and natural features. Due to the fragility of the built and natural environments, as well its lucrative tourism potential, the communist leadership of Yugoslavia sought to strike a balance between environmental preservation and economic exploitation through an intricate system of “rational planning: in the 1970s and '80s.
