Author Biography
Josef Djordjevski is a PhD Candidate in Modern European History at the University of California, San Diego. Advised by Patrick Patterson, one of the foremost experts on the cultural history of Southeastern Europe, Josef’s dissertation project examines the relationship between tourism, industry, and the natural and built environments of the Adriatic coastline under Yugoslav socialism (1945–91). Having conducted research in Croatia, Serbia, and New York, based on funding from the University of California’s competitive Chancellor’s Research Excellence Scholarship, Josef is currently in the writing phase of his dissertation, tentatively titled, “A Seaside for the Future: Tourism, Environmental Protection, and the Transformation of the Yugoslav Adriatic Coastline, 1945–2003.”
