Published

Abstract

This article recounts the hydraulic reconstruction in early twentieth-century China that shifted the water management of central Yangzi Valley from decentralized community-based practices to unified watershed practices. It adopts a governmental and intellectual view of the reconstruction. In so doing, it attempts to understand the historical resonance of the top-down hydraulic megaprojects in the central Yangzi Valley as of today.
