Davor Mujezinovic is a PhD researcher at Lancaster University in Lancaster, UK. His doctoral research seeks to investigate the phenomena of e-waste through case-studies of the dump-sites at Guiyu in Guangdong, China, and Agbobloshie near Accra, Ghana. It seeks to do so through the lens that combines ecological economics and Marxian political ecology, framing the e-waste problem as an inherent problem of capitalism and as a historically specific mode of production.
Once a toxic e-waste dump, the largest in the world, recent government investment in environmentally sustainable recycling has begun to change the face of Guiyu. But who pays the price for progress?
