The Equestrian Suburb of Latine Los Angeles

Published

Abstract

Avocado Heights, an unincorporated majority-Latine community of 13,000 residents located in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, underwent Latinization as Hispanic, specifically Mexican, residents moved into the suburb in the 1970s. They brought their equestrianism, or charrería, to Avocado Heights, fashioning its identity and environment as an equestrian suburb.
