In response to the threat of migrating wild boar carrying African Swine Fewer (ASF) across the border from Germany, Denmark erected a wildlife fence along its entire southern border in 2019. Denmark is the only EU country where pigs outnumber people, and the pork industry is considered vital to the national economy. However, the construction of the fence, cutting through the landscape and visibly separating both humans and animals, has ignited fervent debates about nationality, belonging, and how feral animals are portrayed and politicized.
