Abstract

This case study of the transformation of a riverine landscape into a distinct administrative region in sixteenth-century India offers valuable insights into the dynamic relationship between geography and political constructs. It highlights the way a medieval ruler astutely recognized Bihar as a distinct ecological zone and used the rivers to demarcate the district boundaries.
